Geologic Mapping position in Kentucky



The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a highly motivated, experienced geologic mapper who can immediately provide a leadership role for the Geologic Mapping Section’s STATEMAP-funded efforts in surficial geologic mapping, research, and scientific publication. Candidates will be asked to attach a list of completed geologic maps and scientific publications with their application (Specific Request 1). Position will work from the KGS office on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington, Kentucky. NOTE: Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to submit access to an example of one of their geologic maps and will be asked to present a summary of their research results for KGS staff.

Minimum qualifications are a PhD Degree and three years of experience or the equivalent (eg. MS degree in geology and six years of experience in the field); background in sedimentology, soils, or Quaternary geology; strong record of geologic mapping, research and scientific publication; experience in a team environment; good communication skills; valid driver’s license; ability to independently navigate rough terrain. Preferred qualifications: PhD in geology or related field; GIS experience; experience with soil coring/drilling techniques and/or sediment lab analyses such as particle size analysis; and Professional Geologist certification.
