Jeff Hoffman appointed State Geologist of New Jersey



Jeffery L. Hoffman has been confirmed by the NJ Governor as the State Geologist to manage the New Jersey Geological & Water Survey.  Jeff has a B.S. from Penn State and his M.A. from Princeton.  

He has 34 years of experience in the NJ Department of Environmental Protection in hydrogeologic investigations including ground-water modeling, water-supply planning, drought indicators and response, ecologic flow goals and analysis of nitrate carrying capacity of land in support of watershed management.  

He is active in numerous public and professional organizations in presenting geoscience to inform decisions.  He was in part responsible for organizing New Jersey's water supply and use information which has served in preserving the New Jersey Highlands and as an example to USGS for a national water census.  

He is a registered professional geologist and was recognized in 2000 with a New Jersey Exceptional Service Award.  Over the past two years he has been coordinating much of the Department’s work with the USGS including the Cooperative Water Program.
